Tailoring of Two-dimensional Band-gap Materials for Broadband Frequency Isolation

چکیده
∗ ABSTRACT The spatial distribution of material phases within a periodic composite can be engineered to produce band gaps in its frequency spectrum. Applications for such composite materials include vibration and sound isolation. Previous research focused on utilizing topology optimization techniques to design two-dimensional periodic materials with a maximized band gap around a particular frequency or between two particular dispersion branches. While sizable band gaps can be realized, the possibility remains that the frequency bandwidth of the load that is to be isolated might significantly exceed the size of the band gap. In this paper, genetic algorithms are used to design squared bi-material unit cells with a maximized sum of relative band-gap widths over a prescribed frequency range of interest. The optimized unit cells therefore exhibit broadband frequency isolation characteristics. The effects of the ratios of contrasting material properties are also studied. The designed cells are subsequently used, with varying levels of material damping, to form a finite vibration isolation structure, which is subjected to broadband loading conditions. Excellent isolation properties of the synthesized material are demonstrated for this structure.

Phase Properties of One-Dimensional Quaternary Photonic Crystals
In this paper, properties of reflection phase in one-dimensional quaternary photonic crystals combining dispersive meta-materials and positive index materials are investigated by transfer matrix method. A plate periodically bonded with piezoelectric patches on its surfaces is considered. The differential quadrature element method is used to solve the wave motion equation for the two-dimensional periodic structure. The method is very simple and easy to implement. Based on the method, band structures for in-plane wave propagating in the periodic piezoelectric plate are studied, from which the fr...

متن کاملA periodic folded piezoelectric beam for efficient vibration energy harvesting
Periodic piezoelectric beams have been used for broadband vibration energy harvesting in recent years. In this paper, a periodic folded piezoelectric beam (PFPB) is introduced. The PFPB has special features that distinguish it from other periodic piezoelectric beams. The Adomian decomposition method (ADM) is used to calculate the first two band gaps andtwelve natural frequencies of the PF...

In this paper, the phase properties of waves reflected from one-dimensional double-periodic quasi-crystals consisting of single-negative materials are investigated using transfer matrix method. It is observed that, by increasing the double-periodic generation number, a large omnidirectional band gap is created in the single-nagative frequency range. We limit our studies to the frequency range o...
